Glory Destiny Reborn – A New Era for an Old Favorite

Hello everyone! I am back with another game review! I enjoy playing different styles of games and writing reviews based on whether they cater to both casual and hardcore players. Today, I will be discussing Glory Destiny Reborn, a free-to-play MMORPG officially released on March 6th, 2025 (this specificity will be relevant later).

 ⋆˚✿˖°Introduction⋆˚✿˖°

Glory Destiny Reborn is a revival of the Spirit Tales universe, inviting both returning and new players to explore a vibrant fantasy world filled with an engaging story line and a multitude of monsters to battle and collect as pets. The game takes place in a mystical land where humans and spirits coexist, threatened by the rise of darkness and the division of nations. Players take on the role of a hero tasked with restoring balance to the world.

⋆˚✿˖°Game play and Features⋆˚✿˖°

Players can choose from multiple classes and tribes, offering a  variety in play style. One standout feature that surprised me was the great selection of skin colors available! It was refreshing to see an extensive range from the lightest to the darkest shades, as well as unique and unusual colors like green.

The game introduces mechanics that enhance combat and exploration, including:

  • Adventure Partners – Players can collect and nurture unique, adorable creatures that assist in battles.

  • Quality-of-Life Features – Fast travel, quick equipment set switching, batch crafting, and instant channel switching streamline game play, making it especially welcoming for new players.

(all options are not pictured, honestly it would take too long haha)

⋆˚✿˖°Visuals and Graphics⋆˚✿˖°

The game runs smoothly and is reminiscent of early MMORPGs, featuring chibi-style characters. Personally, I was excited about this game because I missed playing Maple Story 2, and this helped fill that void. The world map is well-structured, with distinct territories that encourage exploration beyond quest objectives.

⋆˚✿˖°Community and Reception⋆˚✿˖°

The game supports multiple languages, including Chinese, English, Japanese, and Thai, fostering a global community. The real-time chat translation feature allows seamless communication, and I found the world chat particularly helpful when I got stuck.

On Steam, the game has received mixed reviews, primarily due to three recurring issues:

  1. Pay-to-Win Concerns – Some players feel that the PvP is unbalanced, favoring those who invest real money. However, as someone who plays solo, I found PvP to be a minor aspect of the game, so it didn't impact my experience.

  2. Limited Dungeon Access & Low Drop Rates – While some players find this frustrating, I personally powered through without focusing too much on equipment drops.

  3. Misleading Release Date – The developers initially stated that the game would be released on March 4th, 2025, but it was only available for pre-download, with servers opening on March 6th, 2025. While a minor issue, the confusion was frustrating for excited players.

⋆˚✿˖°Difficulty and Learning Curve⋆˚✿˖°

The game is relatively easy to progress through, especially with the ability to click on a task and teleport directly to the quest location. However, the game follows an old-school MMORPG approach—throwing players into the world with little to no tutorial.

Oddly, after several minutes(~25 minutes) of game play, an NPC provided a tutorial on how to use the W, A, S, D keys to move, which was unintentionally hilarious since players would have already been navigating the world by that point.

Despite the lack of guidance, random clicking was enough to figure things out, making it manageable even for new players. As someone who plays casually and rarely prioritizes armor and weapon upgrades, I found that it's still possible to progress through the story line without needing to maximize stats.

⋆˚✿˖°Conclusion⋆˚✿˖°

Glory Destiny Reborn offers a nostalgic return to the Spirit Tales universe with modern enhancements and a vibrant world to explore. While it features exciting mechanics, new players should be prepared to spend time exploring menus and mechanics due to the lack of an in-depth tutorial. Additionally, there aren't many external resources available for guidance.

Despite this, I believe the game caters well to both casual and hardcore players:

  • Casual players can enjoy the game without focusing too much on armor and weapons.

  • Hardcore players can optimize their gear and levels to maximize their strength.

Additionally, the teleport feature makes navigation easy for those who get lost, while those who prefer exploration can use their mount for an extra challenge.

Would I recommend Glory Destiny Reborn as a first MMORPG? Sure! The game is cute, easy to pick up, and—despite the lack of a tutorial—one of the more accessible old-school MMORPGs. I’m excited to see what future updates and improvements will bring!
